New mum Gemma is living with her exasperating mother, Davina, whilst Malcolm is staying at the squalid bedsit. Wanting her out, Gemma and Derek plot to get Malcolm back in the flat.

Malcolm is babysitting Sadie whilst Gemma is out on the town. Derek tricks Malcolm into helping seek revenge on his ex, but panic ensues when Gemma announces she is coming home.

Malcolm takes Gemma and Sadie on a weekend break. When Malcolm's estranged dad, Jackie, invites himself along, Malcolm calls Derek for support but soon discovers his secret addiction.

Gemma and Cherry clash over the handsome leader of Sadie's Rhyme Time class, leaving Gemma to make amends. Meanwhile, Jackie takes Malcolm and Derek to the Peak District.

Going to great lengths to fulfil his dad's wishes, Malcolm still feels he has failed Jackie. Meanwhile, Catherine's plans to conceive a baby with her ex-husband Gary are put into action, but she needs Gemma's help. When a stranger arrives, Gemma is shocked to discover Malcolm's long-held secret.

Whilst preparations are being made for Sadie and Malcolm's birthday, Malcolm gets to know Tommy. Gemma secures her first job interview, forcing her to make a difficult decision.
