Why You Should Watch 'Fallout'

Fallout returns on Prime Video today, or at 2am in the morning UK time, but a day earlier than originally scheduled!

It has been 18 months since Fallout burst onto our screens and its return for Season 2 in time for the holidays is something every fan of post-apocalyptic worlds should be hyped about. Season 1 was an instant hit, and is sitting at 93% on RT, something quite unique in this day, where companies expect the inbuilt audience of the franchise to flock to the show, but rarely capitalise on the love of the lore that built that fanbase. Other recent attempts such as The Witcher famously failed to not only satiate the viewers, but also alienated the main star of the show. Fallout, however, understood the assignment.

Fans and critics alike praised the show for its blend of gritty and grim science fiction, hilarious dark humour, and surprising emotional depth. It is much more than a typical game-to-screen translation. Instead of - badly - retelling a single game's story, the series builds its own original narrative within the rich franchise universe, helped with stand out performances from its three main stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Walton Goggins.

Who Is In 'Fallout'?

Ella Purnell stars as Lucy who started as an optimistic Vault dweller - someone raised in an underground shelter, shielded from the hellscape on the surface. Her okee-dokee can-do spirit is put to the test as she’s thrust into the irradiated wasteland.

Aaron Moten portrays Maximus, a Brotherhood of Steel recruit, who shows us that war... war never changes, no matter who you are. Whether you want the life or not, whether you're strong of spirit or an also-ran, war is hell and you'd better adapt or die.

But more so than these, Walton Goggins as the Ghoul was the breakout star of Fallout. Usually relegated to NPCs in the games, putting a ghoul front and center was a master stroke, not only for his snarky attitude, gritty pragmatism and dark humour, but also for connecting the distant past with the current now. More of his long secretive past will be revealed in the coming season.

When Will New 'Fallout' Episodes Be Released On Amazon Prime Video?

Season 1 was released all at the same time, and pulled in over 60 million viewers in the first 2 weeks, rising to over 100mil over 6months. The down side of this explosive popularity, set against its budget, means that Season 2 will be a drawn out affair, with just one episode a week, like TV used to be, in the 60's. Amazon will be hoping to capture some ongoing subscribers no doubt.

Fallout Official Synopsis

"It is the aftermath of the Great War of 2077, an apocalyptic nuclear exchange between the United States and China in an alternate history of Earth where advances in nuclear technology after WWII led to the emergence of a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent resource war. Many survivors took refuge in fallout bunkers known as Vaults, most being unaware that each Vault was designed to perform sociological and psychological experiments on the Vault Dwellers on behalf of Vault-Tec. More than 200 years later in 2296, a young woman named Lucy leaves behind her home in Vault 33 to venture out into the dangerously unforgiving wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles to look for her father, who has been kidnapped by wasteland raiders. Along the way, she meets a Brotherhood of Steel squire and a legendary ghoul bounty hunter, each having their own mysterious pasts and agendas to settle."
