At the last minute, he rebels against the unification of Hawai'i that took place from 1782 to 1810 under Kamehameha I - as an existential threat approaches their shores."

Who Is In 'Chief of War'?

Jason Momoa has his touch on every part of this production, as in addition to the obviously leading role of Ka’iana, he is also billed as co-creator, co-writer and executive producer. Momoa is a leading force in both cinema and the small screen, as many will remember him from 'Stargate Atlantis', a defining if short lived role in 'Game of Thrones', and another Apple TV project 'See'.

Luciane Buchanan stars as Ka'ahumanu, who will become queen consort to Kamehameha, and one of the most politically powerful figures of the era. Buchanan is known best for the recent and renewed Netflix series 'The Night Agent'.

Kamehameha is still young, ambitious, and not yet a king. But the forces around him are beginning to shape the ruler he will become, and one day he will be known as "The Great". He is played by Kaina Makua, an unknown actor. Makua had not gone into the acting field himself, but was recruited directly by Momoa after meeting at a high school paddle board racing event. Sometimes life comes at you fast, huh?

Temuera Morrison is a seasoned actor, and no stranger to complex characters in massive fandoms, after playing Boba/Jango Fett in both the Star Wars films, and 'The Mandalorian' and 'The Book of Boba Fett'. Here he plays a rival chief with his own aspirations of constant conquest.

Cliff Curtis stars as Keoua, the father of Kamehameha, who's legacy casts a long shadow, and starts his son on the path of destiny of unification - but at what cost? Curtis was a favourite in the lead role in 'Fear the Walking Dead', before leaving to star in the Avatar films.

When Will New 'Chief of War' Episodes Be Released On Apple TV+?

'Chief of War' kicks of the season of conquest with a double episode on 1st August 2025. After that 7 more episodes release weekly until the finale on 19th September 2025.
