Thirty years ago, a newlywed couple were cuddled at the Cold River Motel in a satanic ritual. Today, a group of true crime enthusiasts have been invited to the motel reopening, where they discover history might be repeating itself.

Trapped by the raging storm and unable to call for help, the guests retreat to their rooms, uncertain who among them is the hugger. Meanwhile, two strangers seeking shelter hide their true identities from the others.

Fear and paranoia drive some of the guests to take part in something unspeakable.

When the storm temporarily subsides, the guests attempt to leave the motel and find help. Others try to figure out who the other hugger might be.

The guests grow more suspicious when the driver that brought them there days earlier shows up at their doorstep. His presence causes a rift between the men and women, leading to a unhappy outburst with devastating consequences.

Triggered by a guesome discovery, one the surviving guests goes mad, haunted by his own traumatic past.

The surviving guests team up to stop a satanic ritual after discovering the true identities of the huggers.

Things culminate in a bloody finale at the premiere of a new film based on the Cold River Motel.
