In the season premiere, the competition is fierce, the talent is exceptional and the surprises abound as coaches Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton all vie to discover and coach the next singing phenomenon from the country's best vocalists. Adding another layer of excitement this season is the introduction of the "block" where the Coaches have an opportunity to block a fellow coach from recruiting the artist on their team.

Kelly Clarkson teams up with Hailee Steinfeld, Alicia Keys with Shawn Mendes, Adam Levine with Julia Michaels, and Blake Shelton with Trace Adkins. New this season, coaches go further in the training process than ever before by working with the artists right up until performance night.
Two of Kelly's artists are excited to take on a top 10 pop hit by Kelly's very own advisor, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam hands two of his strongest male artists the tall order of performing one of Rihanna's biggest songs, while Alicia tasks two of her female vocalists with a chart-topping song by En Vogue.
Artists are challenged to take on beloved classics by Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and current hits by Ed Sheeran and Chris Stapleton, not to mention a powerful Kelly Clarkson #1 song! Blake and Kelly each have one steal left, and Alicia has two.
The battles conclude with the final pairings for teams Adam, Alicia, and Blake. Alicia is the only coach left with a steal.

In the knockout rounds, former Voice champions return to advise the artists. Season 3's Cassadee Pope advises Team Kelly, Season 9's Jordan Smith advises Team Adam, Season 12's Chris Blue advises Team Alicia, and last season's Chloe Kohanski advises Team Blake. Each coach chooses the winner of their pairing to move on to the Live Playoff shows. In a new twist, the coaches will have the opportunity to save one of their artists in addition to being able to steal someone that would otherwise go home.

On the first night of the Playoffs, the Top 24 artists will all perform live and after the real-time votes are counted, the artist with the most votes from each team will be revealed and advance to the Top 12.
On the second night of the Playoffs, the remaining artists from 2 of the teams will perform live to try and secure a Top-12 spot.

This week's theme is "Challenge Week", in which the artists will focus on overcoming an obstacle in any aspect of the performance. The challenge could be song or genre-based, or having to do with performance and stage presence - each tackling something that they see as a challenge on their journey to become a well-rounded artist.
After 7 artists are revealed to be safe by America's votes, the bottom 3 compete for the Instant Save and 2 are eliminated. Charlie Puth performs "Done For Me" and 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) performs their new single "Want You Back".
The top 8 artists perform live for America's votes. Plus, the artists team up for competitive Mashup Duets.
Three artists are revealed as safe by America's votes. After these finalists are revealed, the bottom 2 artists are sent home immediately, while the middle 3 artists compete in the Instant Save for the last spot in the finale.
The final 4 artists perform live three times - one new solo cover, a special duet with their coach, and a debut of their original single.
